A little valve can make a big difference in the operation, efficiency and (perhaps most importantly) the quality of your everyday shower. Whether you’re building your own shower or checking out our suppliers’ extensive ranges, there are some things you need to look out for.
The valve is one of the most important components in any properly functioning shower unit; in its simplest form it regulates the flow of water through the shower apparatus. And you can’t build a shower without one! But there are other reasons why you should take a least a little interest in your valves...
The shower valves we’re interested in may be exposed or concealed, and they all have a number of useful functions. Of particular import are the thermostatic valves. These are the components that have killed a joke book’s worth of sit-com sketches by maintaining the temperature of your shower, even if someone flushes the toilet, runs the tap or puts on a wash and spin cycle!
Thermostatic shower valves don’t just keep the water temperature constant, they feature built in anti-scald settings to ensure that no matter how hot you like your shower, you’ll never have too hot a shower!
Shower valves are built to last and typically come with extended manufacturer’s warranties, as you’ll find if you’re buying bespoke components for your own self built or adapted shower. After all, they’ve got to withstand an awful lot of pressure and the eroding effects of gallons of hot and cold water!
Suitability for water systems varies between about 0.1 and 4 bar pressure according to which model you choose. Certainly if low pressure is an issue, you’ll want to invest in a shower valve fit for the purpose. In addition to regulating temperature, shower valves are often used to mitigate against low pressure, thereby ensuring an even output at all times. (Units are also available for dual use with a bath and shower.)
And for those who notice; shower valves are just as artfully designed as any other aspect of your bath or shower and blend in beautifully - so aesthetes and design enthusiasts are spared from over heating too!
